May 8th, 2012 by Rob
A well-known Canadian soldier and former Assistant Director of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo has passed away.
Don Reekie served in the Canadian Forces from 1951 to 1980. He was the Regimental Sergeant Major of 2nd Battalion, The Black Watch (RHR) of Canada, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment and the Canadian Airborne Regiment in Edmonton and in Petawawa.
He became the Assistant Director of the NS Tattoo in 1981 and remained in that position until his retirement in 2010. He was also the Assistant Director of the Canadian Forces Tattoo that toured Canada in 1985.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
Work with him and was a dame fine RSM, will be missed by all who served with him, and he kept the Nova Scotia Tattoo alive and strong, Soft winds my brother Airborne.

Rest in Peace, Don.
AIRBORNE.
RIP Don.
I beleive Don was Col Frasers RSM when I first went to the CAR in Edm. I was in the locker room in the Gym cooling down and putting a bit of polish on my boots after Donny McLoad had given us a work out. Mr Reekie came in from the showers and sat on my can of shoe polish. It cost me 3 extras and I think there was a Routine Order entry banning us from polishing boots in the gym locker room. Always the soldier and a fine gentleman.
RIP Sir
Airborne
at the last parade that RSM Reekie presided over in Petawawa, he told us “don t let the wimps get you!
Interesting really as I think he realized the changes that would be coming down the road for the Regiment being so close to Ottawa
