Never did have the pleasure of jumping from a Chinook although I did JM on one or two Chinook jumps. It is a shame we no longer have the ability to move that many soldiers in one lift.

I had the pleasure of jumping out of "s***hooks" several times in the early 70's. I was a forward observer for a very small strike unit'102mm artillery unit (5/81'st batt.) in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. We used to get all the unused "chute's and make a Saturday weekend/barbeque out of it.Once after too many "liquid refreshment's", I decided that my harness was too tight and loosened up the leg straps before climbing aboard the ship. That was all well and good, but when I stepped off the loading gate, and my chute opened, that extra bit of slack reminded me all of a sudden why you tighten up the harness in the first place. All the way down, one hand on the risers and one hand on "my boy's". And when I crumpled on the DZ, everyone around heard me faintly calling for a medic. I guess we learn some lessons the hard way.

Im going to have honour of beginning my JUMPCOURSE this sunday. I heard rumor that you can now get your wings from jumping out of the SHINOOK. I look forward to the course... ANY TIPS FROM ANY AIRBORN TROOPS would be much appreciated, TAKE CARE
